OUR FOUNDERS

In December, 1997 Frank Heyward travelled from South Australia to Uganda for an eight day holiday.  His short trip inspired a desire to help the Ugandan people, a burden that was matched and affirmed by his wife, Michele, and the Pastors at their church.

With the scripture “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation” (Mark 16:15) in their hearts, they moved to Uganda in November the following year with their youngest daughter Hannah. Becoming missionaries was something they had never discussed, or even thought of, but God works in miraculous ways.

Over the next several years, God inspired a vision for the work of COME Uganda, and He opened many doors for preaching and the teaching of His word. They were invited to be involved with a church in the slum area of Kasubi, near Kampala, which they accepted, and were based there for two years. Then in September 2001, a property was purchased at Lugala, 6 kilometres from Kampala (the capital of Uganda), where the headquarters were established.

Frank (now officially "retired" was an ordained pastor with Australian Christian Churches (formerly called AOG Australia). Their work in Uganda has been a journey of selfless passion for a people less fortunate and is nothing less than astounding, as Christ’s miracle working power is seen daily in their lives of sacrifice and love for the people of Uganda.
